Canadian Musician issue [05 Feb 2009|01:22pm]

[ mood | frustrated ]

Ok, I'm probably an idiot for not being able to figure this out, but can somebody explain to me where the hell I go on the Canadian Musician site to order the new issue with the boys on the cover? All I can find is ordering back issues or subscribing.

I just wanted to say you guys are really cool and lovely and thanks for keeping this community pretty together.

Wakka wakka!

I really miss Sloan. The last time I saw them live (wow, 2 years ago next month), it really made an impression on me. Great set list, great energy, great crowd. As special as the first time I saw them live (10 years ago next month!) at the Palais Royale. It was my first concert ever, actually. Those were monumental shows! Were any of you there too?

Portland and Seattle shows report [10 Oct 2008|11:50pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Sorry for the late report guys, I've been sick in bed since just after the shows. Anyway, Sloan was amaaaaaaaaazing as per usual in Portland and Seattle. The new stuff was rockin' and they pulled out some killer old stuff ("UNDERWHELMED"! "SNOWSUIT SOUND"! OMGOMGOMG.) Over the two shows, they played stuff from every album except Pretty Together, maybe they hate it as much as I do. They even mixed up the setlist some at the second show cos we told Chris we would be there again. Also, "Before I Do" rocks out a lot more live than I would have expected, and you know, I would think I would be sick of "Money City Maniacs" and "Penpals" by now cos they've played them at I think every show I've been to but they are so fucking awesome live that I just can't be. Oh also the opening band, The Golden Dogs, were very cool too, people should check them out.

We talked to Chris after both shows. *swoonswoonswoon* At the Seattle show I got him to sign the two most recent and he said they were both "very worthwhile albums" so I told him that Twice Removed used to be my favourite album but now it's Never Hear the End of It and he said something about how "as we get further away from Twice Removed we seem to be getting further away from what people love about it." Then he said he's really into The Kinks these days so we talked about The Kinks a bit and that was cool. He said their lyrics are a lot more interesting than The Beatles but The Beatles have better production. He was also all startled by my copy of Parallel Play because it's the American one, not the Canadian, and apparently the colours are a little different? But he said he liked it and it was "punchier."

We also got to talk to Andrew for a bit after the second show. He had been wearing these really interesting t-shirts with stuff drawn on them and he told me that he does them all himself. "I have a lot of free time and a lot of blank t-shirts." He was happy that I appreciated his Orwell reference in "The Dogs." He also said that Never Hear the End of It is his favourite album too. No Jay and Patrick either night sadly.

Setlists!Collapse )

I took a bunch of pictures both nights--you can see all of them on my Flickr. My boyfriend also has a bunch on his site. He put a few videos on Youtube as well. I made a video of "Underwhelmed" but I was bouncing around so much I don't think it came out very well. Plus, half of it is sideways because Chris turned my camera around in the middle of it for some reason?

If anyone's interested... [24 Jul 2008|02:40pm]

I was going to Sloan's site out of curiosity for something, and I noticed they had updated the site! For some reason I was shocked. Anyways, I think it looks good.

Out of curiosity (and because I wonder such things when I am bored) is anyone seeing Sloan in Kitchener?

When Sloan was on XM radio the other day talking about Parallel Play I recorded it in mp3 format. If anyone is interested in it, I will upload it.

Hmm... a weird question. [28 Jun 2008|09:20pm]

[ mood | calm ]

I was wondering if anyone had all of the Sloan videos online, or on their computer? I want to convert them to be able to play on my ipod.

I'll upload them (in iTunes format at the time...) if anyone wants them as well.

Uncovered/The Ongoing History of New Music [24 Jun 2008|09:04pm]

A friend pointed me in the direction of this interview with Chris and Jay posted on a local radio station's website. There are four video interview clips, and also performances (still just Chris and Jay) of Coax Me, Living the Dream, and The Rest of My Life.

I guess I'm just curious and talkative today... [24 Jun 2008|04:06pm]

[ mood | hyper ]

I was wondering if anyone knew where to get any good Sloan pics? I searched through a bunch of posts and really couldn't find any, or any screencaps (I'm just too lazy to make my own and they never work out right anyways)

Thanks :)

Also a question about the MB...Collapse )

Sloan Sleuthing [24 Jun 2008|09:50am]

[ mood | blank ]

This might seem strange as I've liked the guys for 12 years and have only had the opportunity to see them twice (what the hell is wrong with me?!), so I will be seeing them for the second time this summer. Last time I saw them (and when I ended up meeting Chris and Jay) I acted like the biggest dork around Chris, and when (if) I do meet him again, I want to avoid that.

Anyways, so I guess my question is whats the best way to meet them after a show? I know loads of people do, and I know from last time I did that it was extremely easy to meet them. I don't really have any worries about it not happening, I just need some tips or something. Anyone know anything that I should know? Anyone head any advice?

chicago friends!!! help!! [23 Jun 2008|07:48pm]

[ mood | crazy ]

i know this is weird, but if any of you are going to the show tonight and could find it in your heart to buy me one of the "jay&chris&patrick&andrew" tote bags, i would:

1. promptly reimburse you for the cost of the bag and shipping
2. send you a present for being an excellent human
3. high five you the next time i'm in town (which will be in the fall)

Sloan at the Bowery Ballroom this weekend [14 Jun 2008|11:00pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

First of all: What does everyone think of Parallel Play? I must admit, after an opus like "Never Hear The End Of It" i am kind of disappointed. I really didn't like all the songs on NHTEOI, but there were so many that I still liked a TON of them... but anyway.

Second of all: Is anyone going to see Sloan at the Bowery Ballroom this week? I have seen Sloan twice, in St. Louis and in Minneapolis. I am kind of nervous about seeing them in NYC, because I don't know if it will be as intimate. I picture thousands of screaming fans (many of them teenage girls, as I used to be. Too bad "I'm not a kid anymore." Hah) and Sloan rushing away as soon as the show is over instead of sticking around to chat & stuff.

Also: ( Sloan seem to not enjoy photos so much )
(by the way, that is a fake cut, to my own LJ. too lazy to ctrl-c ctrl-v. actually, cmd-c and cmd-v, since i am a mac user!)

See you guys soon! Spread the love!

Parallel Play! [10 Jun 2008|02:07am]

[ mood | pleased ]

My pre-ordered copy came today woooooooooo! What does everybody think? (I know, streaming, but I was waiting to get the album). Loved Witch's Wand as the previous poster mentioned and I also am really digging Believe in Me, Cheap Champagne, If I Could Change Your Mind, and I'm Not a Kid Anymore. I don't like it as much as Never Hear the End of It (which I loved), but pretty solid. I am pleased. Now here's hoping the boys will come out west (I'm about to move to Seattle) so I can actually see them again, it's been too long!
